CANCELLATION, COVID, INCLEMENT WEATHER &  REFUND POLICY

* PLEASE NOTE that your registration financial commitment is for the full year term (Sept-June), even if you choose to pay in installments. Regardless of attendance, your account will continue to be charged until the end of the registration term, unless we have made alternate agreements. We cannot offer refunds for students who opt to leave mid-year. *

DEPOSIT POLICY:

Your deposit is paid upon registration. This payment secures your registration and is non-refundable.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

Wisdom of the Earth Wilderness School’s cancellation policies are based on our investment in staff, course planning, land rental, as well as equipment purchases, before your course. We cannot recover our expenses if you cancel, and it can be challenging to fill a spot once the course is underway even if we previously had a long waiting list.

If you choose to cancel or leave a course for any reason:

    • 15 or more days prior to the course starting date – you are entitled to a full refund, MINUS the non-refundable DEPOSIT amount.

    • 14 days or less prior to the course starting date or once the course has begun – we are unable to offer any refunds or credits.

In the event that we have an eager family on the program’s waitlist and are still able to integrate a suitable participant in a timely way, we will consider the possibility of offering a prorated refund. However, this is at the discretion of Wisdom of the Earth and we cannot guarantee this. We do not have the capacity to do further outreach to try to fill your spot.

Good news: 99% of the time, the program is the perfect fit for everyone! It’s very rare that we have students unhappy with their experience or unable to continue participation.

CONDUCT POLICY:

Wisdom of the Earth Wilderness School welcomes students who are motivated to connect with nature, learn wilderness skills and are healthy & socially responsible. We expect that youth choose to be there, want to participate, and are able to conduct themselves in ways that meet the safety demands of our courses.

We believe in working with students and their families to find collective strategies to grow and learn from challenges and conflict. That said, we will dismiss any student who continually exhibits behaviour that is unsafe for themselves and others, or who disrupts from the educational mission of a course. If we cannot find a solution for your child to participate, they will be dismissed. If a student is dismissed mid-program, there will be no refund.

If any duration of a course is cancelled by Wisdom of the Earth Wilderness School:

Although we rarely need to do so, we reserve the right to cancel a course or change a course duration, tuition or location. We are not responsible for costs associated in these cases.

  • We are unable to offer refunds if any duration of a program is cancelled due to inclement weather, or circumstances out of our control.

  • If a program is canceled due to low enrolment, tuition will be fully refundable, minus transaction fees.

SNOW, WIND & WEATHER POLICY

Wisdom of the Earth Wilderness School (WEWS) puts high priority on the physical and emotional safety of all its participants. We also value the opportunity to provide outdoor adventure in various weather conditions, including rain and snow.

In the case of forecasted snow or very high wind warning, WEWS will email families to notify of the potential for program cancellation 1-2 days prior to program whenever possible. The final decision regarding cancellation will be made by 7:00 am on the day of program, and will be emailed to all families at that time. We reserve the right to cancel or make changes to programs at any time, in the interests of safety.

Should the program run as scheduled, even during inclement weather, the decision to attend is the responsibility of individual families. If making the decision to attend, please consider:

  • WEWS operates in locations that may not be fully plowed at the time of pick-up or drop-off (though we will cancel if road conditions are clearly dangerous).

  • Participants attending must be mentally and physically prepared to be outside in challenging conditions all day. If students arrive with unsuitable clothing/gear for a safe day outside, they may not be permitted to stay for the day.

WEWS instructors are permitted to declare an early pick-up time, should they deem necessary, due to heavy wind, snow or other weather conditions. Parents must be available by phone to receive this call and able to pick-up their child should this occur.
